Journal Broadcasting building Wild West World studio - Wichita Business Journal
Journal Broadcast Group's six radio stations will soon have a storefront studio at the Wild West World theme park. The next step is figuring out exactly how to use it.

"Really the sky is the limit," says Beverlee Brannigan, operations manager for Journal. "I think our usage is going to vary from station to station."

Journal operates six radio stations in Wichita offering country, contemporary, rock and Spanish music formats.

The theme park is scheduled to open May 5. The storefront studio will be located in the Main Street area along with restaurants and gift shops.

Brannigan says deciding which station will broadcast at which times will be coordinated with the park's calendar of events.

With significant economic development hopes riding on the frontier veneer of Wild West World, owner Thomas Etheredge excitedly announced this week he's 95 percent done with construction.

In fact, the $30 million, 130-acre theme park in Park City has stayed about 30 days ahead of schedule for months now, and Etheredge says his May 5 grand opening is on track.

He also plans to gross $16 million this year at Kansas' first theme park by drawing at least 500,000 visitors from May through September, a number Etheredge said is conservative considering there are more than 2 million people within a 200-mile radius of Wichita.

Officials at Wild West World Theme Park will hold a second job fair Saturday in hopes of hiring at least 140 more people for the park's inaugural season. The job fair will be held in the Johnny Western Theatre at the park located at 77th Street North and Interstate 135 in Park City.

New Church/Amusement Park Controversial - WIBW
The leader of Wichita's Immanuel Baptist Church who shocked his congregation by stepping down last month was back giving sermons this morning. The Reverend Terry Fox has started a new church to be housed in the Wild West World theme park in Park City. Fox says he and Immanuel Baptist's leaders agreed he should resign from his position as senior pastor last month. The outspoken conservative Christian frequently pushed for a state ban on same-sex marriage and anti-abortion causes from the pulpit. His former church is said to be looking for a new pastor with a different leadership style. Fox says his new church, called Summit Church, will be affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and will hold services in the Johnny Western Theatre at the theme park. It's only about 10 miles from Immanuel.

First attraction opens at Park City's Wild West World - Kansas.com
The first attraction of Wild West World, a theme park in suburban Wichita that eventually will include 25 rides and other features, officially has opened. The Johnny Western Theatre, named for the musician and longtime KFDI radio personality, was unveiled Thursday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony with park owners Thomas and Cheryl Etheredge. Events scheduled for the "pueblo deco" theater begin Sept. 8 with a Neal McCoy concert.
