Blue Valley Bank seeks to seize Wild West rides

The Bank of Blue Valley in suburban Kansas City has asked a federal bankruptcy judge to allow it to seize some of the rides at Wild West World.

In its filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the bank says it leased the equipment to Wild West World but that the insurance on the rides expired Thursday.

But attorneys for Wild West World owner Thomas Etheredge objected to the request in their own brief Thursday, saying it would hurt efforts to sell the failed amusement park.

Etheredge's attorneys admitted that casualty insurance expired on the rides but says the park since has obtained new insurance.

The attorneys also said the amusement park should remain intact rather than be sold through "piecemeal liquidation." Etheredge has said he is looking for a buyer of the park.

After two months of operation, Wild West World closed its doors July 9 and filed for bankruptcy saying attendance at the western theme park just north of Wichita suffered because of rainy weather.
