Last of Pavilion coaster torn down - Charlotte Observer
The final piece of the Hurricane roller coaster came down this morning at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park.

Charleston-based Lowcountry Wrecking pulled the final piece, the coaster's large vertical climb, on its side shortly after 9 a.m.

Since rolling onto the site in December, the crew has used excavators, claws and even the occasional chainsaw to pull apart the landmark, including a building on the oceanfront that had been around for 58 years -- surviving hurricanes and the corrosive sea air but giving way to the pressure of redeveloping the pricey land.

Heaps of concrete sit ready to be recycled into road-making material. The few clusters of trees poking up from the busted up cement stand out, ready for a landscaper to take them to a new home.

No one wanted the bulky Haunted Hotel, which spooked kids for years, or the six-year-old Hurricane roller coaster, so both came down. B&C kept just about everything else to use at its other properties.

Pavilion nostalgia park planned at Broadway at the Beach - WPDE
The Myrtle Beach Pavilion is gone now, but some parts of the historic amusement park will live on. Many of the park's rides and attractions will soon have a new home at Broadway at the Beach.

It will be a mini amusement park located on the east end of Broadway at the Beach, between the Cinema 16 Theaters and the Hampton Inn. It'll be called Pavilion nostalgia park, and it's planned to be just the beginning of a full-scale amusement park at Broadway at the Beach.

It's been a year since Burroughs and Chapin announced the Pavilion would be closing.

But now, there's another announcement that many of the rides, attractions, and arcade games that belonged to the historic park will have a new life at another B&C property, Broadway at the Beach.

A bittersweet farewell - Myrtle Beach Sun News
The simple, typed sign taped to the ticket booth window was a brief heartbreaker for the Jones family. Two rides at The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park - the Wave Swinger and the Hurricane roller coaster - wouldn't be running this sunny Thursday afternoon. Any other trip, the Jones kids and their two friends would have brushed off that notice, knowing they could catch those rides next summer. But this is the last outing for the family to the amusement park.

Pavilion much more than amusement park - Myrtle Beach Sun News
Meet me at the Pavilion. Chances are you've been told that, said that or overheard it. The phrase is frequently used in planning get-togethers at the beach, though the times, days and reasons for meeting have varied since the first group of teens hung out there 58 years ago because there wasn't anything else to do.

Pageant strong part of Pavilion tradition - Bradenton Herald
When you think about your favorite part of The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park, beauty pageants probably aren't the first things that pop into your mind. But in their own special way, they are as much a part of the Pavilion experience as the rides, food and people-watching.

Thousands sign petitions to save amusement park - The State
When college student Tripp Carter started an online petition to keep The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park open, he thought he would get a few names on the list. After a week, the site has collected more than 4,200 names — some from as far away as England — and prompted a paper petition drive that is hitting Front Street in Georgetown, powered by another 20-something, Dexter Blakely Jr. Yet another petition is circulating in Conway.
