SAN DIEGO -- An acrobat fell during a performance before a live audience at SeaWorld Friday afternoon, San Diego fire officials said.

Several audience members called 911 all at once flooding the call center after the accident, according to San Diego fire spokesman Maurice Luque.

The fall happened around 2:30 p.m. during a performance of Cirque De La Mer, according to SeaWorld officials.

The 34-year-old unidentified man was taken to Scripps Memorial, Luque said. His condition at this time is unknown.

According to park officials, the performer was very experienced. He was on Chinese poles, doing a maneuver, when he slid down the polce head first and hit the ground. His head struck a padded deck, officials said.

He was alert and talking to medics when he was transported, as a precaution, officials said.

The man was not a SeaWorld employee, but a member of the contracted cast of the show. Officials said the day's regularly scheduled shows would continue as normal.
