LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A Louisville couple whose teenage daughter had her feet severed on a ride at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom sued the park Thursday and want a judge to order the park not to destroy a cable that investigators believe tore off the girl's feet.

Randall and Monique Lasitter filed the lawsuit on behalf of 13-year-old Kaitlyn Lasitter, who remained hospitalized Thursday in good condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., The Courier-Journal reported.

The lawsuit claims the park failed to maintain the equipment and ensure riders' safety. It asks for a temporary injunction stopping the park from altering or destroying the Superman Tower of Power ride or the cable.

Doctors at Vanderbilt reattached Kaitlyn's right foot after the June 21 accident but couldn't save the left because of the severity of the injury.

Carolyn McLean, a spokeswoman for the theme park, declined comment Thursday night and said she hadn't seen the lawsuit. The Lasitters said through a Vanderbilt spokesman that they had no comment and referred questions to their lawyer.

The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, alleges Kentucky Kingdom was negligent in inspecting, testing, maintaining and operating the ride, also known as the Hellavator. It claims Kaitlyn has suffered permanent injury and severe emotional pain and that her ability to earn money has been impaired.
