A special birthday bash in Arnolds Park, Iowa marks the 80th anniversary of their amusement park's oldest ride... the Legend roller coaster.

Putting smiles on the faces of children and grown-ups for 80 years, this white wooden roller coaster, with it's lipstick red rail, is truly a legend. According to the National Amusement Park Historical Association, the Legend is the 13th oldest roller coaster in the world.

Jeanne Sieh says "It's the heart of the park, it's the heart of the area."

This oldee is still a goodee... don't be fooled by it's age. With each passing year, it gets more rickety and more fun.

Even though a sign hanging above the 1st treacherous drop says "the point of no return," there's something about this coaster that keeps people coming back for more "hair raising fun."

Is it the dips or the turns? Well, there's only one way to find out.

People have been riding this coaster for 80 years, so this should be a piece of cake. I mean, if these guys can do it, I can do it, right?"

The coaster was designed by famed roller coaster designer John Miller and is one of the last remaining examples of his work. Built in 1927, it took 200 men two years to build the Legend Roller Coaster.

Of course, it had to be time tested before it got its name. It was first called "Giant Dips," because of it's seven ups and downs.

The coaster actually had to be flattened down to six hills, because it was too exciting for some riders.

The one-minute-45 second ride covers a quarter mile of track at over 50 miles per hour.
