MASON, Ohio (AP) - A gruesome accident at a Kentucky amusement park yesterday has prompted Kings Island near Cincinnati to close down its Drop Zone ride.

A teenage girl's legs were severed above the ankle yesterday while on a similar ride at a Six Flags park in Louisville.

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom spokeswoman Wendy Goldberg says the accident happened around 4-45 pm on the Superman Tower of Power.

The ride is similar to Kings Island's Drop Zone.

It lifts passengers 264 feet straight up, then drops at a speed of 67 miles an hour.

A spokesperson for Cedar Fair, which owns Kings Island, says the ride has been shut down indefinitely.
