Charlotte, N.C. (June 11, 2007) – Let’s get it started! Carowinds Endless Summer on Ice presents a tribute to summer fun, as world-class skaters whip up a choreographed confection of twirls, jumps and spins to the beat of popular music. This fun-filled ice show, beginning Saturday, June 16 offers families a memorable experience, as a summer of fun unfolds in the Carowinds Theatre.

For the first time in more than ten years, the Carowinds Theatre has been transformed for an ice-skating extravaganza featuring intricate skating routines, lively music and some special guest character appearances! Cool off from the steamy summer heat in the air-conditioned Carowinds Theatre while watching what is sure to become a summertime favorite at the Park.

Endless Summer on Ice gives families a chance to experience all of their favorite classic summertime activities, including motorsports, camping trips, a Fourth of July parade, the local carnival and, of course, lots of beach time! With school out, the possibilities are endless, as skaters perform cutting-edge choreography and fast paced, energetic ice dancing. With music ranging from 70’s disco to current hip hop, the show is sure to entertain the entire family.

As the last school bell of the year rings, the students leave for summer break, and the story begins. A beach volleyball game, roasting marshmallows over a campfire and a colorful parade at the carnival are just a few of the fun times ahead as skaters embark on their endless summer.

The Carowinds Theatre stage went through a total transformation for this amazing event. More than 4,450 gallons of water were used to create layers of ice. Pipes under the ice hold almost 1000 gallons of liquid to keep the ice frozen and must maintain a temperature between nine and eleven degrees at all times.

“We are really looking forward to bringing this show to the area,” said Jerry Helms, vice president of operations at Carowinds. “The process of creating an ice rink inside a theatre has been very interesting to watch. We have learned that the temperature of the ice is incredibly important to our skaters and that warmer ice allows more complex tricks to be performed.”

The performance features 13 talented figure skaters from across the country, along with special appearances from some furry Carowinds characters. After hitting all of the rides and attractions, a visit to the theatre will be a great place to cool off and catch a show. Endless Summer on Ice runs for approximately 30 minutes and is presented at least four times each day. (excluding Wednesdays)

“A lot of work goes into producing a show like this,” said Danielle Logano, a local skater featured in Endless Summer on Ice. “We rehearse everyday from 1-9pm. It helps us to become accustomed to the stage, but for me, rehearsal is more about bonding with the other skaters. We are all here together now, and they feel like my family.”

Admission to the show is included with Park admission. Please check the schedule at the entrance to the theatre for show times.

Carowinds currently is open daily through Aug. 26, and Sat. – Sun. operation resumes Sept. 1 – Oct. 28. The park also is open Sept. 3. The park is closed to the public on Sept. 29. For a complete operating schedule, visit www.carowinds.com.
