EL PASO, TX - County Commissioners voted against buying the property in Ascarate Park that formerly housed the Western Playland Amusement Park.

The court voted four-to-one in favor of sending Western Playland Owner Pat Thomson a letter urging him to clean up the property and remove all rides left behind.

Thompson recently relocated his park to a spot near the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino in Sunland Park, New Mexico.

County Judge Anthony Cobos was heavily in favor of the county purchasing the remaining rides and buildings of the amusement park.

Thomson made it known he would rather give away the last of his property at the park for free to anyone but the county.

Cobos cast the lone vote against sending the letter to Thomson.
