SACO, ME – May has arrived in New England and that means one thing to people from around the region, Funtown Splashtown USA will be opening soon. On Saturday, May 12 at 11:00am, Northern New England’s largest family-themed water and amusement park will open the gates on its 41st season. Many improvements have taken place in preparation for the upcoming season.

What Wet Is All About

The Route 1 skyline in Saco got a major change this winter with the addition of two seven-story tall water slides, the Mammoth and the Tornado, at the Splashtown USA water park. Each slide will use tubes that can carry four to five guests each. Tubes will be brought to the top of the slide tower via a conveyor system. “For water park attractions, this puts Saco Maine on the map for the Northeast”, said Ken Cormier, park founder and CEO. “The Tornado water slide is an exclusive to Splashtown USA for all of Northern New England”.

Other changes coming to Splashtown USA include additional lounging with 20-foot Funbrellas and palm trees scattered across the area. The Hungry Bear Restaurant and Sweet Shoppe Ice Cream Stand are currently being renovated so that guests in Splashtown USA will be able to purchase food from inside of the water park for the first time ever. “This is one of the biggest requests that guests make every season,” said Cormier. “The size of the water park never allowed for a restaurant without taking away seating. Now guests will be able to stay in Splashtown for the entire day.” Group seating areas have also been created in the water park to accommodate the expected influx of groups coming to enjoy the expanded water park.

During the off-season, Funtown Splashtown USA forged a partnership with Portland Pirates, the local American Hockey League affiliate. As part of a multi-year agreement, the Portland Pirates and the Cumberland County Civic Center will be naming the ‘AA’ and ‘BB’ section of the arena ‘The Funtown Splashtown USA Family Zone’. Funtown Splashtown USA in return has rebranded its AquaPlay attraction in Splashtown USA the ‘Portland Pirates Paradise’. “This new relationship will allow each organization to target potential guests during each company’s off-season.

Great Park Entertainment

This summer, Funtown Splashtown USA will welcome back the wacky crew from Mad Science to perform at the Picadilly Corner Stage. The show, ‘Molecular Mad Science’ will have three shows each day and run every Monday from June 26 through August 13. Funtown USA will once again host ‘Soul Jam’, a fun-filled day of Christian music on Saturday May 26. New this season will be the Locke Family of magicians, illusionists and entertainers. They will be performing two to three times each week during July and August.

Giving Back

Funtown Splashtown USA has always been a leader in community involvement. This year is no exception. On the weekend of June 23 and June 24, the park will hold its annual ‘Food For Fun Weekend’. A portion of that weekend’s gate sales will be donated to the Saco Food Pantry.

Funtown Splashtown USA is Northern New England’s largest family-themed water and amusement park, located on U.S. Route 1 in Saco, Maine. The 82-acre park offers thrills and excitement for families and children of all ages, with some of the largest attractions in Northern New England.
