It makes perfect sense that of all the theme parks in Pennsylvania, the first to be 100 percent smoke-free is Sesame Place, the nation's only theme park based on the award- winning television show Sesame Street. Located in Langhorne, Pa, only 30 minutes north of Philadelphia, this interactive theme park is considered the "child's first theme park," according to noted authority on play, Dr. Rhonda Clements.

With the understanding that children should be exposed to the safest environments, Robert J. Caruso, executive vice president and general manager of Sesame Place, decided with his management team that they will provide the safest, most family-friendly experience for their guests. While many theme parks have designated smoking areas, Sesame Place, wanted to go one step further.

"We are a children's theme park; 42 percent of our guests are children under 9 years of age, and it is most important that we take all precautions to ensure the safest experience for our young guests," Caruso said.

Park officials survey guests and after reading comments about concerns related to smoking, they made the decision to respond and set this smoke-free policy for 2007. Another comment from Caruso reflected on expectations of guests; "We are seen as the child's first theme park and our guests expect the highest standards. We felt it was our responsibility to fulfill their expectations and continue to provide the outstanding service they have come to expect."

Sesame Place, an interactive play experience for families with children ages 2-7 and named one of the top four theme parks in the Northeast by Family Fun Magazine, is located 90 minutes south of Manhattan. Sesame Place offers stimulating play activities feature exhilarating water attractions such as Sky Splash, live stage shows, the "Rock Around the Block" musical parade, the thrilling Vapor Trail roller coaster and memorable Sesame Street character greetings throughout the day. Sesame Place is an Anheuser Busch Adventure Park. Busch Entertainment Corporation also operates SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove.

Sesame Place opens May 5, 2007. It is open Friday through Sunday until May 25 when the park is open daily. After Labor Day, Sesame Place is open weekends only until October 27, 2007.
