It’s a new day at Six Flags Over Texas.  After nearly two years of reconstruction, the amusement park unveiled the all NEW Texas Giant.  The roller coaster is quite a rush.

Gone is the rickety ride that shook every bone in your body.

Berry and her son Briggs were some of the first people on the ride.  Through the Children’s Miracle Network, 15-year-old Briggs was chosen as the Cook Children’s Hospital roller coaster ride pick.  He along with dozens of VIPS got a preview of the NEW Giant before the public does.  The ride did not disappoint the young man.

“There's a bunch of sharp turns and banks that are really steep.”

He’s not kidding!  The lift hill is ten feet taller than the original Giant.  At its maximum height, the ride is 153 feet from the ground then you hit the steepest drop of any wooden coaster in the world at 79 degrees.

“Believe me when you’re up it looks like 90 degrees.  It looks straight down,” says Six Flags Over Texas Park President Steve Martindale.

The ride is smooth, safe, secure and nearly silent.

“The thing you hear the most is the wind rushing through your ears and the screams of the people around you,” says Martindale.

The New Giant is a first of its kind hybrid roller coaster design.  It includes a traditional wooden structure with a state of the art steel track.  The world’s first Iron Horse Coaster Track allows for multiple hills, and three bank turns at more than 90 degrees.

“I think it’s going to become Six Flags’ masterpiece,” says Roller Coaster magazine editor Tim Baldwin.

“It's a really smooth ride, and you've really done something when you've ridden it.  It's a lot of action packed into one smooth experience.”

So even if you’re scared silly, give it a shot because it’s over in 90 seconds.

The NEW Texas Giant officially opens to the public on April 22 at 10am.
