Six Flags St. Louis Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Six Flags Over Mid-America opened its gates for the first time on June 5, 1971.  Two hundred acres of pasture land in Eureka, MO was chosen as the site of the theme park and after nearly 2 years of construction, over 2 million man hours and an investment of $22 million, the third park in the Six Flags chain was complete.  The theme park officially changed its name to Six Flags St. Louis in 1997 and remains Missouri's premier vacation destination.

Guests visiting Six Flags St. Louis relive some of the park's history through Then and Now signs located throughout the park and at the Gallery of Thrills in the Palace Theater Lobby showcasing displays, photos and videos of the past forty years.  The park is pulling out all the stops to make the 2011 season one to remember for years and years to come.

Opening Day April 16, 2011

On Saturday, April 16, 2011 Six Flags St. Louis kicks off its 40th Anniversary season with the first 400 guests entering the park  receiving a complimentary ticket to return to the park for the official Anniversary Celebration on June 5.  The celebration continues with a special Opening Day Ceremony featuring local dignitaries, a flag raising ceremony and entertainment.  Opening Day guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a 40th Anniversary Trivia Contest and sign up to compete in a Cupcake Eating Contest sponsored by Dierbergs Markets where the first of forty contestants to eat forty cupcakes will win forty tickets to the park.  In honor of the 40th anniversary season, the park is offering a $19.71 one-day ticket valid April 16 or 17 online at www.sixflags.com/stlouis.

Official 40th Anniversary June 5, 2011

June 5, 2011 marks the official 40th Anniversary of Six Flags St. Louis.  The first 10,000 guests will receive a commemorative 40th Anniversary souvenir and all guests will be invited to enter a contest to win a Ruby and Diamond Pendant provided by Clarkson Jewelers.  Guests will also be invited to enjoy a giant 40th Anniversary cake.

When the park opened in 1971 it featured 8 rides.  Today Six Flags St. Louis features 34 rides including the new SkyScreamer set to open mid-May.  SkyScreamer is the tallest ride in the park standing at 236-ft. and will take guests soaring at 43 mph in a 98-ft. circle.  Hurricane Harbor was opened in 1999 and remains the only free waterpark with theme park admission inMissouri.  Guests can enjoy the 40th Anniversary celebrations, the new SkyScreamer and Hurricane Harbor with a Six Flags Season Pass on sale now at Dierbergs Markets or online at www.sixflags.com/stlouis.
