Legoland Florida is starting to take shape with just seven months to go until its projected opening in Winter Haven.

"We're on schedule. We will open in October," Legoland Florida General Manager Adrian Jones said today during a media preview event on the theme park's property.

Construction crews are busy turning dirt and building the foundations for what will ultimately be a 150-acre theme park with 50 shows, rides and attractions.

"This month marks the fact that we're now starting to build rides, and you can see things starting to appear from the ground which really is a significant point in terms of the project," Jones said.

Construction manager, Craig Riebel, said crews are working 12 hours a day seven days a week but will soon switch to a 24-hour a day schedule.

"We will be going round the clock here in the next few weeks. We will be going 24-7 to get complete," Riebel said.

Legoland Florida is being constructed on the site of the former Cypress Gardens theme park. Officials still have not set a specific date for the grand opening but say they have factored in the potential for delays.

"Who knows weather-wise or project permitting, but at the moment we are absolutely on schedule for October," Jones said.

The clock is also ticking for residents who want to purchase discounted annual park passes. Legoland Florida is offering those passes for $99 until the end of April.
