WFTV got a sneak peek at Central Florida's newest 150-acre theme park on Wednesday, and saw first-hand the progress being made inside LegoLand in Polk County.

The new blue roller coaster is still under construction, along with other rides such as the inverted rollercoaster called "Flight School." It's one of 50 attractions that will go up.

The park's general manager, Adrian Jones, said the creative phase of the construction is underway.

"Today marks a significant time because now we're at the point where most of the landscaping has been completed. All the infrastructure changes to the old Cypress Gardens have been done. Now, we're starting to see things coming out of the ground," said Jones.

But most of Florida's first theme park, which was built here in 1936 and lasted more than 70 years, will only be a memory.

"In some ways, you won't actually recognize the old buildings and infrastructure that was here. It'll be so different," Jones said.

Construction crews will soon begin around the clock shifts with as many as 250 hired hands every day.

"We've transplanted over 660 trees that we've removed and put back into the park. So, it's gonna be like the old, natural Florida," said construction manager Craig Riebel said.

Managers said it is a $150 million project, and when it's finished, more than 1,000 people will work there. They're projecting up to 2 million guests per year.

"Now marks the time where the rides start to come out of the ground," Jones said.

Tickets are already for sale online. Tickets are $65 for adults, $55 for children ages 3 through 12.

"We're really only 45 minutes from Orlando and from Tampa and it's a very easy drive," said Jill Swidler, marketing manager.

The park will open in October, but a hard date has not been set yet.
