Universal Orlando will shut down a Jimmy Neutron-themed simulator ride to make way for a new attraction, the resort said Monday.

Universal said "Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast" in the Universal Studios Florida theme park will close April 1 so crews can begin work on a replacement attraction. The ride will briefly reopen during the peak spring and summer travel periods, before closing permanently on Aug. 18.

Universal didn't provide any details about what will replace the Neutron-themed ride, other than to describe it as "an all-new experience based on an amazing concept." A spokesman for the resort also would not elaborate.

There have been unsubstantiated rumors that it will be replaced by an attraction themed to the 2010 animated film "Despicable Me,"which was distributed by Universal Pictures. The movie studio is owned by NBC Universal, which co-owns Universal Orlando with the private-equity firm Blackstone Group.
