Six Flags New England is adding a 10th roller coaster to its rides, the Gotham City Gauntlet Escape from Arkham Asylum, according to Jason Freeman, the amusement park's president.

"We are continuing to expand our entertainment offerings for families, teens and tweens, and this newest addition is the perfect complement to our existing slate of attractions," Freeman said in a press release issued by the amusement park.

Gotham City Gauntlet Escape from Arkham Asylum is scheduled to open in April.

Guests get their thrills attempting to escape from Arkham Asylum, the home of Gotham City's criminally insane. Riders will board four-passenger cars that will make a five-story climb toward the sky.

When riders reach the top of the lift hill, their cars will be sent spinning and twirling through a maze of 17 hairpin turns, winding twists and unexpected dips.

The new attraction, located in the DC Super Hero Adventures section of the park, has 1,213 feet of track.

"I'm always happy when they get a new roller coaster. I'm a roller coaster enthusiast," Mayor Richard A. Cohen said of the development.

The mayor said the new attraction is good for the area because it will draw more people to the park, which will stimulate the local economy.

The city approved a building permit and site plans last fall for the attraction, the installation of which was recently completed, according to the mayor.

Six Flags Entertainment Corp. is the world's largest regional theme park company, according to Six Flags New England communications manager Melissa Pinkerton.

The corporation has 19 parks, which are located across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The company's flagship park, Six Flags Over Texas, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this coming season.
