Roller coaster won't be ready for Ohio park's opening - WKYC-TV

Son of Beast, billed as the world's tallest, fastest wooden roller coaster, won't be ready for riders when Kings Island amusement park opens this spring, officials said. The park opens April 21. But parts of the coaster remain under construction, although its signature 118-foot-high loop has been removed.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture, which oversees amusement park ride safety, required the park to make modifications after an accident on July 9 sent 27 people to the hospital. The park decided to remove the loop so it could use lighter trains.

Most injured passengers were treated for bruises. One woman suffered a broken sternum and was hospitalized for four days.

Kings Island, formerly known as Paramount's Kings Island, was renamed after it was bought by Sandusky-based Cedar Fair Entertainment Co.
