Call them the terrific 12, if you will.

The 12 highest bidders will become the first to ride the "Wooden Warrior," the highly-anticipated new roller coaster opening this spring at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury.

Quassy today officially announced the first-ride auction which will benefit the Connecticut Food Bank, Make-A-Wish Connecticut Chapter, and Connecticut Public Television. All proceeds from the auction will be divided equally among the three organizations.

"We will inaugurate our new marquee ride in support of these three great beneficiaries," noted George Frantzis II, a park owner. "Quassy has historically been a philanthropic business, and this coaster kickoff reflects who and what the park is."

Set For Opening Day
The auction winners will gather at the park on Saturday, April 23, and be the first public riders to hop aboard the new family coaster, which has more than 1,200 feet of twisting and diving track.

Bidding starts at $25 and one bid equals one seat on the coaster's train. The 12 highest bidders will line up for the first ride according to their respective bids.

The remaining bidders in the auction will also ride following the inaugural run -- lining up under the same guidelines. Quassy reserves the right to cut off the bidding after the first 200 bids received. The ride will open to the public following the rides by auction bidders.

To place a bid, send a check or money order made payable to Quassy Amusement Park, postmarked no later than Feb. 15, 2011 to: First To Ride, PO Box 887, Middlebury, CT 06762. The amount filled in on the check will be your single and final bid.

Include the full name, address as well as an e-mail address of the bidder -- or the person being designated as a first rider - on a separate sheet of paper.

Winning bidders will be notified via e-mail. No personal information will be shared with any outside source.

Rider Restrictions
All winning bidders must abide by and meet the rider restrictions/rules on the new roller coaster. Winning bidders will also be required to sign a release waiver as the event will be photographed and videotaped for use by Quassy Amusement Park and members of the media. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver the day of the event.

The complete auction rules appear on the Press Page at www.quassy.com

Winning bidders will be required to be at Quassy Amusement Park no later than 10 a.m. on April 23 for registration and line assignments.

About The 'Wooden Warrior'
The new roller coaster is part of Quassy's multi-year improvement plan. In 2010 the park initiated the first phase of the project when it installed "Free Fall 'N," a family drop tower built in Europe.

The "Wooden Warrior," named in a contest among local and area schools, was designed by The Gravity Group of Cincinnati, Ohio, to specifically fit the sloping topography at the park.

Funding for the new ride provided by TD Bank.
