July 24, 2006 There will be no twinkling lights cascading from the Eiffel Tower this year. Winterfest at Kings Island has been canceled because of lower-than-expected attendance last year.
The winter festival made a splashy debut Nov. 25 after a 13-year hiatus. It opened last winter bigger and better than the Winterfests of yesteryear, covered more property and grew from 1 million lights to 3 million.
After the festival drew to a close on New Year's Eve, Kings Island officials said it would be back. Spokeswoman Maureen Kaiser said the winter event was the highest-rated event in history, according to surveys of park-goers.
