June 13, 2006 Six Flags CEO Mark Shapiro is charged with revitalizing an ailing regional theme park chain that has posted an annual loss since 1998 and earned a reputation as a rundown hangout for packs of teens.
"Every day we find something wrong with this company," he says. "It's a total fix-up."
The 36-year-old former ESPN executive is driving a massive Six Flags makeover that aims to raise attendance and spending in its key summer period: More than 85% of revenue comes in the second and third quarters, the bulk of it in June, July and August.
