May 26, 2006 A failed mounting bracket caused last weekend's roller coaster accident at Valleyfair that injured 18 people, the amusement park said Thursday.
The accident on the Wild Thing roller coaster happened when its train was braking as it approached the exit station Sunday afternoon. Inspectors determined that the mounting bracket in the area right before the train enters the station failed, damaging the rear axle on the fifth car.
