BLOWING ROCK, N.C. -- A North Carolina amusement park is starting to clean up, after a fire destroyed one of the most valuable buildings on the property.

Tweetsie Railroad lost the oldest part of the attraction when the fire broke out early Sunday morning. Not much was left of the building that used to be full of what officials say were priceless memorabilia.

“We're going to dig through to see if there’s anything that might be salvageable,” said Chris Robbins, Tweetsie president. “There are number plates from locomotives … that could very well have survived the fire and just need cleaned up and they'll be fine.

“It housed our museum which had a lot of memorabilia from the east Tennessee and western Carolina railroad and the early days of Tweetsie Railroad,” said Robbins.

The building has stood since the 1950s. Now, museum officials say they are going to rebuild and they’re going to open up as scheduled on May 2.

"We'll be fine,” said Robbins. “We'll replace it with something that will be even better than what was here before. By the time May 2 rolls around you won't even know this building was here."

Fire investigators are continuing to investigate the cause. They believe it was an electrical fire.
