Those ready to tie the knot or simply share a quiet, breathtaking moment together this Valentine’s Day may want to look up – 130 feet up.

That’s where many romantic couples will be Thursday night as they head to what is becoming a special romantic escape -- the Pacific Wheel at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier.

The nine-story Pacific Wheel topped the Westways magazine’s list of “eight great places to pop the question” in the LA area.

"Head over to the Ferris wheel, where, if you've phoned ahead, the handler will keep you airborne for those extra proposal minutes,” the magazine said. “You can’t beat the view."

The solar-powered wheel also is wining kudos from other venues.

According to the AOL Digital City Los Angeles profile, “The Ferris wheel is a perfect spot to steal a smooch while your sweetie admires the ocean view.”

Introduced in 1998, the Pacific Wheel was selected “Best Solar System” in the Reader’s Digest Best in America 2006. Couples can ride the wheel Thursday between noon and 9 p.m.

Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier, LA’s only admission free amusement park, offers 12 amusement rides, 21 midway games and an oceanfront food plaza.

An individual ride on the Pacific Wheel is $3, or Pacific Park’s best value is the all-day wristband, providing unlimited use of rides. Prices and operating hours are subject to change, so be sure to call ahead at 310.260.8744 or visit pacpark.com.
