SANTA CLAUS, Ind. — Holiday World's Voyage roller coaster is the world's new No. 1 wooden coaster, according to Amusement Today, an international trade journal.
The announcement came Wednesday during the amusement park industry's annual Golden Ticket Awards ceremony at Dollywood amusement park in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Holiday World's new Bakuli ride, inside its Splashin' Safari water park, also won the Best New Water Ride Award.
The honors are based on the Texas publication's annual "best of the best" surveys submitted by well-traveled theme and water park enthusiasts.
"With so many amazing roller coasters around the world, it's an incredible honor to have our Voyage named the very best," said Will Koch, president of the 61-year-old Southern Indiana theme park.
"We're very grateful to the families who've traveled from all over the world to ride our coasters and try out our new Bakuli this season."
The 173-foot-high Voyage, built for $6.5 million, opened in 2006 and features three drops of more than 100 feet, five tunnels, three sections of 90 degree banking and a triple dip near the end.
The Golden Ticket awards are billed as the amusement park industry's Academy Awards. In all, Holiday World & Splashin' Safari received four Golden Ticket Awards, the most presented to any park this year.
For the 10th consecutive year, the family-owned attraction was judged the friendliest park.
And for the eighth year in a row, it was judged the cleanest, beating such parks as Disney World, Kings Island, Busch Gardens and Cedar Point.
Holiday World's other two coasters also stayed near the top of the wooden coaster rankings this year: The Raven was ranked seventh and The Legend was 11th.
Splashin' Safari remained the world's second-ranked water park and was ranked fourth for best landscaping among water parks.
Holiday World & Splashin' Safari also climbed from No. 5 to No. 4 in the Best Park category.
